Principal encourages reading from his school's rooftop

Principal encourages reading from his school's rooftop: The principal of a mid Missouri school is going to new heights Tuesday to encourage kids to read more.

This was a great experience and Mr. Williams read the book The Night of the Veggie Monster!  Thank you so much Mr. Williams for helping our school in the Principal's Challenge.  Also, thank you so much to all of the parents who had their students wear camo today in support of the challenge.

New Product-First Time

I have posted a new item on my TpT (Teachers Pay Teachers) account! These are the Fry Word Cards and they can be printed and laminated to be used over and over or until they are worn out. These cards can be used for a quick fun activity of tracing and saying the words. I was inspired to start creating products by my fellow co-worker and teacher, Susan Hogan. She makes many great products on TpT, go to her store and check them out! Please download and enjoy!!

Apple Activities Pictures!

Apples, Apples, Apples!

This week we learned about some new strategies that readers use when they are reading. These strategies will help your child become better readers! We learned about sequencing events in the story, making sure we use pay attention and use the beginning and ending sounds to words and practicing sight words. We did a few apple activities that I will post pictures of. You will find an activity that we did with voting on our favorite apples, if we like to eat the skin and whether we like applesauce or apple juice. We made an apple glyph based on our own decisions and graphed what our class chose. We also made a sequence of the apple poem by making pictures for each line and putting those lines in order. This week we had a lot of participation with Homecoming and this was great because the Pintos won!! Way to go Pintos! We are continuing to learn about subtraction and it has been fun. Important Dates: Tuesday will be pickup for cookie dough in the multipurpose room from 3-7 **Be sure to come pick up the cookie dough!**

YAY!

We made it through the first week or two days of school! We did a pretty good job with learning all of our new rules, procedures and routines. We will really be diving into our Reading this week. We will be learning about different ways to read a book, how to read to self and how to read to someone. This week we will be focusing on colors and I would love it if we could dress with each specific color each day. On Monday and Tuesday we will be reviewing the color Red and we will be reading the two books: The Little Red Hen and The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza. We will compare these stories with a Venn Diagram. On Wednesday and Thursday we will be focusing on Blue. We will read Blueberries for Sal and Dear Mr. Blueberry. We will count blueberries and write a letter to Mr. Blueberry, as well. On Friday we will begin reviewing the color Yellow. Please have your child dress up with each color each day. I will also be sending out a snack day sign-up for our color days. If you would like to participate in the snack days, please sign the form and return on Tuesday. This will allow me to be sure we have enough snacks for each day. I can't wait to see all of my firsties on Monday, have a great rest of the weekend! Love, Mrs. Morrow

Swimming Time!!

We started swimming this week! The kids were super excited and could not wait. I had to notify them every 30 minutes until the time. They will be learning a lot of new things about swimming. They will also be learning about safety in the water. Here are some pictures of their latest swimming adventure!

Making Symm-Trees/Weather Books-Catch UP!

Here are some of the projects that we have been working on over the few days of school that we have had. We are currently working on a unit of fractions and shapes. We learned about how to determine if something is symmetrical. We made a "symm-trees" where we had to identify whether objects were symmetrical and if they were they hung from the tree. The objects that were not, were considered bad objects (fruits) and they fell from the tree. Here are some pictures from their projects! Here is a weather book written by Susan Hogan-First Grade Teacher at California Elementary(aligned with MO GLEs). Our students had the opportunity to work through this book.
